Architect Nicholas August Ernst Von der Nonne

Born June 16, 1836 in the St.Petersburg province. Nikolai entered the First Petersburg Cadet Corps, from which he graduated in 1855 and entered the Imperial Russian Army as an officer. In 1856 he was transferred to serve in the Caucasus. In 1881 he was appointed provincial engineer of the Baku province. In 1895 he left the civil service and became a freelance architect. He is the author of the first general plan of the city of Baku. The general plan was prepared in two years and fully implemented by 1900. Nikolay August Ernst Von der Nonne is the author of many buildings in Baku. Interestingly, his wife, Maria Pavlovna, wrote one of the first textbooks, a textbook on the history of Baku. In 1901, von der Nonne was an honorary magistrate for the city of Baku. Nicholas August Ernst von der Nonne died on August 13, 1908.
