Mosque of Imam Hussein. The idea of building a mosque belonged to the Baku millionaire Haji Hajibaba Ashumov. It was he who in 1895 invited the architect Adolf Wilhelm Eichler (08.10.1869 – 05.02.1911) as the author of the mosque project. In the same year, the architect drafted a sacred building.
In 1986, the mosque was built on the corner of Abdullah Shaig (former Upper Nagornaya street), 14 and Suleyman Tahgizada (former Pochtovaya street), 32.
In Soviet times, the mosque, as a place of worship, was closed. A warehouse was located here at different times, a small plant for the production of table lamps worked, and since 1978 the Baku branch of the «Giproteatr» Design Institute has been located.
Today, according to the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on historical and cultural monuments, the Imam Hussein Mosque is a monument of the country's history and culture and is protected by the state.
