Residential building on Gogol street

Architect Johann Wilhelm Edel

A two-story residential building at the corner of 3 Gogol Street and 56 Nizami Street (formerly Torgovaya Street) was built according to the design of the German architect John Wilhelm Edel (1863 - 14.02.1932) in 1895. Later, in the middle of the XX century, another floor was added.

The architectural composition of the building is built on the principles of the order system. The rhythm of the window openings, the rusticated laying of the walls of the floors, the richness of the decorative architectural elements and the excellent quality of the stone details create a very beautiful and interesting composition.

The lengthy facades of the building along Gogol Street and Nizami Street are represented by front entrance portals and large openings of shop windows.
The building actively works in the urban planning structure of the historical quarters of the center. Interestingly, the architect John Edel actually designed and built almost all the corner buildings at the intersection of Gogol and Nizami streets.
