Architect Leopold Bielfeld

Born in 1838 in Hannover (Germany). He received his architectural education in Germany and Denmark, and completed it in St. Petersburg in 1867. In 1868 Leopold Bielfeld arrived in the South Caucasus. Most of the architect's work is located in Tbilisi, where many public buildings and residential buildings were built according to his designs. Leopold Bielfeld was also the author of a number of sacred buildings in Azerbaijan and Baku, the industrial center of the Caucasus and the Russian Empire in the late XIX and early XX centuries. Unfortunately, during the communist rule, almost all of them were destroyed. The architect Leopold Bielfeld died in 1921 in Tbilisi.
